A complex measuring technique is used for reconstructing the structure of electron energy levels of the Tm3+ ion in a KTm(MoO4)2 crystal in the frequency range 0–300 cm−1. It is shown that the first excited state is very close to the ground state E = 2.3 cm−1). © 1999 American Institute of Physics.
